November 22, 2016
Press Release

SAN DIEGO – November 22, 2016 – International Relief Teams (IRT) has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. This #GivingTuesday, IRT is asking our supporters to give $20 for the neglected, abandoned, and abused children who live at the Kids Kingdom orphanage in Ensenada, Mexico. Plus, every gift will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, up to $5,000!

Occurring this year on November 29, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season. #GivingTuesday inspires people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

“We are thrilled to participate in #GivingTuesday this year by shining a light on the orphanage we support in Mexico,” said Barry La Forgia, IRT’s Executive Director. “This is a wonderful opportunity to reach out to our local and global community at the beginning of the holiday season and share stories with them of the children at Kids Kingdom that need their support.”

International Relief Teams has been supporting all the children’s education and nutritional needs at the orphanage since 2011. Many of these children arrive at Kids Kingdom after living on the streets and without any previous schooling. The orphanage provides a warm, loving home for these kids who have never known comfort. IRT and Kids Kingdom are dedicated to providing a safe environment where children can grow, thrive and become productive, flourishing adults.

In 2015, the fourth year of the movement, #GivingTuesday brought together over 45,000 partners in 71 countries and helped raise nearly $117 Million online in the US alone. “We have been incredibly inspired by the generosity in time, efforts and ideas that have brought our concept for a worldwide movement into reality,” said Henry Timms, founder of #GivingTuesday and executive director of 92Y.

San Diego-based International Relief Teams works to alleviate the suffering caused by poverty and disaster around the globe, from the forgotten corners of the world to right here at home, by sending volunteer teams and medical supplies to make immediate change for the world’s most vulnerable people.
