For countless people living in remote regions of the world, where medical specialists are rare and extreme poverty is widespread, quality medical care is often out of reach. To fill this critical gap, we deploy teams of skilled surgeons who perform life-transforming surgeries. We also send out teams of trained volunteers who conduct vision tests and provide corrective eyeglasses to the poor. Since 2013, IRT has deployed four surgical teams to Honduras, and conducted 125 95 surgical procedures and treated nearly 150 patients. We have also screened more than 6,300 people for eyeglasses in Guatemala, Mexico, and Honduras, and distributed nearly 5,000 pairs of glasses, enabling children to fully participate in school, and adults to earn a living to support their families.
IRT’s surgical and vision outreach programs give hope and new beginnings to the marginalized poor in low-income countries.
